Hardwood tree logs*

* Don't use softwood unless the mushroom you've selected grows on it naturally. Softwood trees are pines, junipers, cypress, or anything that makes a cone. They usually have a strong smell.
** Multiple species can be grown this way as long as they are primary wood decomposers. Be sure you've selected the proper mushroom species for this method.
